Christian Service is motivated by love. Think of yourself as a seed. In order for you to sprout, y
ou need light, water, and nutrients. Once the condition is right you will grow, bloom and produce fruit. If the conditions change such as the weather gets too cold or hot and your water source dries up, your growth could become stunted or even worst. These elements are equal to a life which feeds on the word of God and acts out of a lovingly obedient relationship with Him. The result will be seen in the desire to serve others. Your sincere service will call upon your time and resources. Spiritual gifts can give you insight on how you can serve others yet there may be times that doors open in which you have no experience at all. That is when your prayer should be, “Not my will but Yours”. Then step out in faith. When a heart is touched by Christ example of servanthood, one cannot help themselves to follow in His footsteps. Remember that you can do ALL things through Christ Jesus who strengthens you.
When your life is touched by Christ you may find yourself:
- Praying for others
- Reaching out to fill needs of friends, neighbors, and family members
- Helping the homeless
- Visiting nursing homes
- Sponsoring Christian organization outreach programs
- Becoming a medical missionary
- Starting a card ministry that brings hope and comfort to shut-ins
- Having an unspeakable joy that you wish to share
Go to God and pray that He will create in you the desire to help others. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 9:7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. When you step out to serve others you need that change of heart that shines on everyone you meet. Soon you will find that Christian Service is a part of your everyday life.
“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17
